Democratic Organizing in Central America:
New Directions

The US-based PICO organization recently extended its network under the
auspices of the Catholic Church in Central America. This research
project uses a cross-national perspective to compare the impact of differing
social capital, civil society, church, and state structures on democratic
work. During summer 2006 a team of ethnographers visited Honduras and El Salvador to document the progress of democratic organizing in the region.
